Home Rehabilitation
The Questa Lodging Project started as an idea in the summer of 2017. It is an innovative economic development tool utilizing existing Questeños’ vacant homes. With well over 99 vacant homes in the municipal boundaries of the Village of Questa, and with a housing crisis in our two neighboring communities of Red River and Taos, we have a perfect opportunity to take the deteriorating stock of vacant houses, bring them up to rental standards, and rent these homes to those in need of affordable and comfortable housing. Starting with four homes in 2020, this exciting pilot project increases property values, creates jobs in home restoration, creates income flow from rental income, increases local Gross Receipts Taxes by increasing the population of Questa, increases community pride by visibly improving properties, welcoming newcomers to Questa, and perhaps most importantly, retains local home and property ownership with legacy Northern New Mexico families.
Senior Citizen Home Remodeling
We assit senior citizens with remodeling their homes to make them safer, more elderly-friendly, and liveable so our ancianos can continue living in their homes. Thanks to grants from the USDA, we work hand in hand with our elders who are elgible for USDA grant funds to complete the grant paperwork, obtain home remodel quotes from local contractors, and gather necessary documents. The USDA grants are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. If seniors who are interested in the program are not elgible for the USDA grant, there are welcome to apply for a low-interest loan from the USDA with a low 1% interest rate and a lengthy repayment periods for those necessary home remodels.
Landlord-Tenant Matchmaking
While there are rentals available in Questa from time to time, these rentals are often only available through word of mouth. Meanwhile, many people outside of Questa who are in need of rentals search common sites like Zillow, Craiglist and Facebook. With our matchmaking program, we advertise Questa- area rentals on digital platforms and connect prospective tenants to local landlords, giving our loandlords are variety of tenants from which to select. The goal is to get high qaulity tenants moving into Questa, increasing our tax base and our population.
